Licence
The lessons on Studyfern are licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 4.0 International licence (CC BY-NC-SA 4.0).
In short: use them to learn and to help others learn, for free. Don't use them to make money.
You may
- Study with them, print them, and save them.
- Share them with anyone, for free, in any form.
- Adapt them, for example by translating them or turning them into notes for your study group.
As long as you
- Credit Studyfern as the source, with a link to the lesson if you can, and say if you changed it.
- Don't use them commercially. No selling them, no putting them behind a paywall, no using them in a paid course, app or product, and no using them mainly to earn money.
- Share alike. Anything you make from them must be shared under this same licence, so it stays free and non-commercial too.
A simple credit line: "Based on 'Lesson title' by Ann P., Studyfern, CC BY-NC-SA 4.0."
Not sure whether your use counts as commercial? Treat it as commercial, and don't use the material that way.
What the licence does not cover
- Stroke-order diagrams are built from KanjiVG data by Ulrich Apel and must be shared under KanjiVG's own licence, CC BY-SA 3.0, as marked under each one.
- The fonts (Literata and Atkinson Hyperlegible Next) are under the SIL Open Font License.
- Any image credited to someone else under it keeps its own licence, as listed with the image.
- The textbooks and other works named under "Pairs with" and "Further reading" belong to their own authors and publishers, and keep their own terms.
Sources we build on
- The Latin lessons follow the structure, vocabulary and examples of Benjamin L. D'Ooge's Latin for Beginners (Ginn and Company, 1909), which is in the public domain and free on Project Gutenberg. The explanations, exercises and practice are Studyfern's own.
