About Studyfern
Hi, I'm Ann. When I was a student I didn't know where to start or how to study well, so I built the study companion I wish I'd had.
Studyfern is free study help that adapts to you: your level, your weak spots, your pace and your goals. I made it for anyone learning on their own: people who can't afford school, people between courses, and people who want a second explanation that actually sticks.
How it adapts to you
- Your level. A two-minute placement check on each subject's Start here page suggests where to begin, and each lesson lets you test out of what you already know.
- Your weak spots. Every practice session ends with a short report: what went wrong, why, and the one section to re-read.
- Your pace and your time. Today builds a session from the minutes you have, and the planner works back from your exam date.
- Your goals. Each path leads somewhere definite, from your first Latin sentence to its great constructions, and ends with a self-test.
- Your eyes. Text size, spacing, font and theme are yours to set, with a focus mode for long sessions.
Why I built it this way
Many courses, even excellent university ones, are still built the traditional way: read for hours, then take a test. I put practice first, because finding and fixing your own weak spots is what makes learning last, and Studyfern teaches the study methods the research supports. The aim is real understanding rather than memorised facts, good judgement, the ability to learn new things quickly, and the skill of using tools well without letting them do your thinking.
How I write the lessons
I write the lessons myself, in my own words, and sign them Ann P.. Each one draws on published textbooks and research, and lists its sources so you can read further. Every question and example is written fresh for Studyfern, and every lesson gets a second, separate check for errors before it goes up. You can read the details on How lessons are made.
What Studyfern is not
It is not a school and does not give qualifications. It is independent and is not connected with, or approved by, any exam body or publisher. The finance and accounting pages are general education, not advice on what to buy or sell. The psychology pages explain academic ideas; they are not medical or mental-health advice. No study guide can promise a pass, and this one doesn't either.
Using the lessons
You are free to share, print, translate and adapt the lessons under the licence. There are no ads, no sign-ups and no fees, and what you do here stays in your own browser.
